존 릴리(John Cunningham Lilly, 1915~ 2001)

존 커닝햄 릴리는 미국의 내과의사, 신경과학자, 정신 분석가, 사이코노트(Psychonaut; 새로운 환각제의 효과 를 알기 위해 신약을 검색하고 연구하면서 여러 가지 약물을 경험해 보는 사람), 철학자 및 작가이다.

그는 주로 감각차단탱크(sensory deprivation tank / isolation tanks), 돌고래 통신(dolphin communication)
및 환각성 약물(psychedelic drugs)을 사용하거나 때로는 이들을 조합 사용해 의식의 본질(the nature of consciousness)을 연구했다.
감각차단탱크는 피부와 같은 온도의 소금물로 채우고 그 안에 들어간 사람에게 빛과 소리를 차단하는 탱크로 1954년 존 릴리가 미국 국립정신건강연구 소(NIMH)에서 정신분석을 공부하면서 감각차단 효과를 시험하기 위해 개발했다.
